The deGraffenried Design Scholarship for Oakmont Regional High School
The deGraffenried Design Scholarship is awarded annually to graduating seniors at Oakmont Regional High School pursuing a design degree from a college or university. The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate an understanding and passion for art and design. The selection process equally considers the applicant's portfolio of work, financial need and merit.
Garland deGraffenried is a 2004 graduate from Oakmont Regional High School and was heavily influenced and supported by Greg and Theresa Barry who have run the Art Department for over 20 years. During that time Mr. & Mrs. Barry have cultivated some of the most talented student artists in the state. During their tenure, seven students have received medals from the prestigious National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, something no other art educator in the district has accomplished before.
Their students are recognized yearly in the Boston Globe Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, and every year student work is exhibited in the Worcester Art Museum, Ann Marie College, Mount Wachusett Community College, and in Boston during Youth Art Month. The Barry’s devote countless hours after school to build incredible programs for the students including Oakmont’s chapter of the National Art Honor Society, Art Club, Café Arte and many others. They have been recognized locally and nationally with Greg exhibiting and lecturing about the art program across the country and Theresa being awarded Massachusetts State Semi-Finalist for Teacher of the Year in 2008.
The scholarship was first awarded in 2019.
